join noted Grant Wood scholar Wanda Corn as she introduces her newest book, The Couple with the Pitchfork: America Gothic from Easel to Icon; several years in the making, Corn’s highly readable book takes a fresh look at American Gothic, perhaps the most famous American painting of all time; in this abundantly illustrated book, Corn investigates the changing interpretation of the work over the years from its creation in 1930 to the present day, including its significant role as a springboard for parodies that have explored a multitude of different social issues, helping to raise the painting to the status of an icon; books will be available for purchase and no reservations are necessary; after the program, Corn will sign copies of her book and attendees will have an opportunity to learn abut an exciting new project, the Grant Wood Catalog Raisonné; free
