- ➤ Ronald 'Roady' Plein, the Kernels' longtime equipment manager who wore No. 11 for 40 years, passed away at 81 on Saturday—he was known for his peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and honored with a bobblehead tribute. A visitation and prayer service will be held today at Leonard Funeral Home in Dubuque. KCRG

- ➤ Roasters Coffeehouse will move from NewBo City Market to its new storefront at 1120 2nd St SE (the former Vinyl Emporium) after Jan. 18, and Uptown Coffee Company will fill its spot by opening this week with plans to later shift to a more open area. KDAT

- ➤ The Cedar Rapids Community School District board faced public backlash at a more-than five-hour meeting over its plan to address a $10 to $12 million budget deficit, with concerns about possible school closures and transparency.
