  • Eastern Iowa’s February events list will feature options in Cedar Rapids and beyond, including the Made in Iowa Winter Market at Hawkeye Downs Expo Center on Jan 31-Feb 1—live concerts, sports, and family shows that let locals plan outings for the coming month.  KDAT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fork and Sports, a new sports-themed soul food restaurant, will open in downtown Cedar Rapids at 209 3rd Street SE in late February or early March. It will serve fried, baked, and smothered dishes with sides like collard greens, red beans and rice, and will add weekend late-night service.  KDAT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study for Iowa agribusiness groups predicts that an oversupply of corn will lower prices for local farmers unless Congress permits year round E15 sales. Industry leaders say new markets like sustainable aviation fuel will be needed to bridge the demand gap by 2031.  Radio Iowa

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cedar Rapids Community School District is piloting an at-home learning day today while many other districts call a snow day due to extreme cold. The district uses paper packets (with online options for attendance) to avoid extra makeup days in June.  KCRG
  • Iowa Senators advanced a bill that would require disruptive students to leave class and imposes suspension, expulsion, or alternative placements for violent behavior.   • Firefighters from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department conducted their annual ice rescue training at Noelridge Park on Wednesday morning. They practiced using specialized water rescue suits + techniques to improve rapid, safe rescues in icy conditions.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • Doctors warn Cedar Rapids residents that dangerously cold wind chills may trigger hypothermia and frostbite this weekend. Local medical professionals advise dressing warmly and covering exposed skin if symptoms like numbness develop.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell, a Cedar Falls High School alumnus (former Iowa Hawkeye), was named the recipient of the 2025 Dick Butkus Award after leading the league in tackles and sacks. The honor recognizes his standout season as he anchored Detroit’s defense.  KCRG
