  • Made in Iowa Winter Market returns to Hawkeye Downs on Jan. 31 & Feb. 1 with 150 local vendors selling handmade art and specialty foods. Admission is $5, children under 12 enter free, while Guitar Tom performs music and a bag check is offered by the Concert Chorale on Saturday.  KWWL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Eastern Iowa Airport set a record in 2025 by serving over 1.6 million travelers and breaking monthly passenger records. Airlines increased seat capacity for early 2026, with January up 12 %, February up 13 %, and March up 14 % compared to last year.  CBS 2 Iowa
  • Gas prices in Iowa have risen 8.6 cents per gallon over the past week, with the average now at $2.57 from GasBuddy’s survey of 2,036 stations+prices remain 32 cents lower than a year ago.  CBS 2 Iowa

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Cedar Rapids Community School board held a meeting Monday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Educational Leadership and Support Center on Edgewood Road to discuss the district’s consolidation plan for 2027-28, delaying a vote on school closures until April after cutting nearly $13M from its budget.  KCRG

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mercy Medical Center is now offering a new noninvasive ultrasound treatment for localized prostate cancer (Sonablate) through urologist Dr. Matthew Ferroni. The high-intensity focused ultrasound targets only the cancer, aiming to reduce side effects and speed recovery.  CBS 2 Iowa

SPORTS NEWS

  • RAGBRAI 2026 revealed its 391-mile route with 16,000 feet of climbs, making it the shortest in the event’s 53-year history. The ride will run from July 18-25 from Onawa to Dubuque, and riders can register now for a week of cycling at $250.  KDAT
  • Hannah Stuelke, a Cedar Rapids native and senior forward for the University of Iowa, was named Jersey Mike’s Naismith Player of the Week on Monday after a win over Ohio State. The Hawkeyes now hold an eight-game winning streak as they prepare to face USC on Thursday.  KCRG
  • After the AP poll released on Monday placed them at No. 8, the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team has won eight straight games and will face UCLA on Sunday (the matchup will test their winning streak).  CBS 2 Iowa
