  • Fareway Stores, Inc. donated more than 69,000 lbs of ham to Iowa food banks on Tuesday, Feb. 3 to help residents facing food insecurity— the donation will be distributed by the Food Bank of Iowa, Siouxland Food Bank, and River Bend Food Bank to supply nutritious protein for winter months.  KCRG

  • The Hass family made their debut on Family Feud Monday night at Big Grove and hosted a watch party (reflecting on a memorable game experience despite their loss in the sudden death round).  CBS 2 Iowa

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents at Johnson Steam Academy urged the superintendent Monday night to keep the school open during a review of potential closures as declining enrollment prompts cost-cutting measures, noting concerns about student travel and limited community resources in Wellington Heights.  KCRG
  • Iowa Senate panel advances a 1.75% per-pupil increase for the 2026-2027 school year to kickstart state school funding negotiations, and lawmakers will continue talks to set state dollars for over 200 school districts — facing rising costs and budget pressures.  KCRG
  • Parents at Pierce Elementary met at a PTO session as the district considers closing the school to address an eight-figure budget gap. The board will vote on Monday, Feb. 9, and parents urged the district to explore alternatives such as selling property to support funding.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • Linn County is set to review a draft ordinance tomorrow that requires developers to study water supply needs and sign a water use agreement for new data center projects (which also include rules for building setbacks, noise, emergency response, and road use).  Radio Iowa
  • Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird announced Tuesday a partnership with the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Ring to provide 1,000 devices with lifetime subscriptions plus a $25,000 donation to help domestic abuse survivors.   • Mercy Medical Center announced that Dr. Timothy Quinn will retire on April 3 after more than 20 years as president and CEO and will keep seeing patients while focusing on new tech in patient care—interim CEO Greg DeWolf, with 30 years in healthcare, will lead the transition.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids will adopt a cashless payment system for the 2026 Minor League Baseball season to speed up transactions and enhance security. Fans with cash may exchange it for gift cards at the box office and team store.  KWWL
