- ➤ A dumpster fire early Tuesday forced Green Square Meals—the only free dinner service downtown—to close indefinitely due to smoke damage, leaving more than 100 without dinner. Program director Jill Hemann now hands out sandwiches and seeks a community partner to maintain service while repairs take about a week. KCRG
- ➤ Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers Market 2026 takes place on Saturday, May 30, June 6, June 20, July 18, August 1, August 15, September 5, and 19 from 7:30 a.m. to noon — Market After Dark is scheduled for Saturday, August 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. KDAT
- ➤ Cedar Valley Humane Society has opened an expanded shelter in rural Linn County that nearly triples space to house 65 dogs and 100 cats. The upgrade, part of a three-phase $10 million project, includes new outdoor play yards and visitation rooms and remains in soft opening until later this year. The Gazette

- ➤ A section of Johnson Avenue NW between A Avenue and Hinkley Avenue is closed for emergency water service repairs, and officials say the work will take about three days; drivers are urged to follow posted detours (detour routes are clearly marked). CBS 2 Iowa
- ➤ Gov. Reynolds has ordered flags across Iowa to be lowered to half-staff on Friday from sunrise to sunset to honor Rev. Jesse Jackson (who died on Feb. 17). Public buildings, including the State Capitol and its flag displays, are to follow this directive. KCRG
- ➤ Drivers in Cedar Rapids face delays today as Center Point Road NE is reduced to one lane on each side between 32nd Street and McCloud Place for utility work. City officials say the project will last up to five days (starting today). CBS 2 Iowa
- ➤ Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered all flags in Iowa to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday to honor former first lady Billie Lee Ray, who died Feb. 18 at age 97. KCCI
