BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A union official from IAM District 6 criticized Whirlpool for justifying 600 layoffs at its Amana plant as modernization, calling the claim misleading and harmful to longtime workers. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washington High School students raised concerns (including worries over losing AP classes and performing arts) after the district board discussed staff and class cuts to address a $10 million budget shortfall. Leaders met Monday night and final votes for facility cuts will occur in April. CBS 2 Iowa
- ➤ The Cedar Rapids school board voted Monday to cut 19 full-time teaching positions, saving over $1.5 million next year by letting 14 roles become vacant through attrition. The decision came after reviewing several models, even though no programs were cut amid planned school reorganization. KCRG
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ From Jan. 10 to Feb. 28, inspectors reviewed food establishments across Iowa and found hundreds of food-safety issues such as expired meat & improper temperature controls, including at locations in Cedar Rapids. Officials stress many violations are corrected on site during inspections. KCRG
