Save CR Heritage began renovating the former Zastera Pharmacy at 1137 Ellis Blvd NW into a community hub and salvage shop — the nonprofit plans a Brick-by-Brick Finish Line fundraiser Saturday, Mar.
21 at J.E. Halvorson House from 9 to 11 a.m. to help fund needed updates.
🎭 Culture
The African American Museum of Iowa is hosting the Untangling Roots exhibit, which explores the cultural history and significance of Black hair.
The traveling exhibit will be available for rental by libraries, businesses and schools to offer educational insights for Cedar Rapids residents.
🎓 Education
Niche ranked Iowa's top 10 school districts for 2026 by measuring test scores, graduation rates and college readiness.
The study examined academics, teacher performance+school facilities, clubs and sports to help Cedar Rapids families assess K-12 education quality.
The Cedar Rapids School Board will cut 20 full-time teaching positions at middle and high schools next budget year to save about $1.5 million.
School officials and community members have engaged in discussions & final decisions will be made later this month.

Parents of children with disabilities urged lawmakers yesterday to reject a plan that would lock Iowa into privately managed Medicaid care beginning Jan.
1, and candidate Rob Sand said he would reverse privatization if elected governor (families worry about future care options).
🏈 Sports
The Iowa Heartlanders will suspend hockey operations for next season but will complete eight games at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
Owner Michael Devlin says the move will help the team review future options for a stronger return.
