  • On Thursday, Collins Aerospace confirmed job cuts in Cedar Rapids as part of a global cost reduction effort — the company did not say how many workers were affected or which divisions experienced the layoffs.  KDAT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A powerful spring storm swept eastern Iowa on Friday evening as fast-moving thunderstorms produced wind gusts up to 90 mph and brief tornadoes were reported — causing damage to properties and rough travel conditions. Cedar Rapids residents were advised to secure loose items and review safety plans — with warnings issued as the storm moved quickly through the area.  CBS 2 Iowa

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials announced that work will begin Monday on replacing the roadway on 42nd Street NE from east of Edgewood Road to just east of Pine View Drive, reducing traffic to one lane per direction between Edgewood and River Ridge Roads until November — detours will be posted during the project.  The Gazette
  • City crews are re-striping Coe Road during Coe College's spring break so it will run two ways next week and offer drivers more options to ease congestion on A Avenue and 8th Street — signs will go up after work finishes on March 17 and 18.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • Iowa residents are warned to read labels on cold and flu medicines because mixing acetaminophen with other drugs may harm the liver if the dose exceeds 4,000 milligrams per day—Dr. Wendy Mobley-Bukstein from Drake University advised using only one acetaminophen product at a time.  Radio Iowa
