  • On Tuesday, March 25, a Cedar Rapids resident rescued two bald eagles after they locked talons during a mid-air fight and crashed on a local lawn—experts at the American Eagle Foundation said such incidents are rare and they are monitoring the birds' recovery.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • A Cedar Rapids man, Deavion Crowder, pleaded guilty after taking part in a large fight at the Pedestrian Mall in Iowa City in July 2024—police said his involvement included punching and kicking victims and sparked a second brawl after officers left.  KCRG
  • Linn County sheriff said 39-year-old Christopher Kern, who was involved in an 11-hour standoff at the Chelsea apartment complex in February and faced 17 charges, tried to escape and assaulted a police officer Tuesday during a dental appointment; extra officers from Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha responded before he was taken to the Linn County Correctional Center.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • A new report finds that if the federal government moves forward with proposed budget cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, Iowa will lose $1 billion in GDP and nearly 10,000 jobs—threatening food security and healthcare services.   • Hiawatha will soon start the final phase of a decade-long project to update 29 sidewalk ramps at a cost of $400,000—city officials said work will finish by late August once a contractor is approved and residents may face minor sidewalk disruptions during repairs.  KCRG
