- ➤ Grandparents in Cedar Rapids are hosting a community rally at the Cedar Rapids Public Library on Tuesday, April 14 to address issues affecting children and families — including immigration, the environment, youth mental health and education. - ➤ Gas prices in Iowa jumped 19 cents per gallon over the past week to an average of $3.48, with rates ranging from $2.89 to $4.46 — a spread of $1.57 that is 33.7 cents higher than last month’s cost, according to GasBuddy. CBS 2 Iowa

- ➤ The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau is launching a statewide push for enforcement of the hands-free law today to help drivers use their phones safely — over 2,400 citations have been issued since Jan. 1, and local drivers at Cedar Rapids rest areas report seeing continued phone use. KCRG

- ➤ Kids enjoyed an Easter egg hunt before the first pitch at Sunday's Kernels game, creating seasonal memories at the ballpark & celebrating a local baseball tradition. KCRG
- ➤ The Kernels beat Peoria 14-8 Sunday afternoon after hitting four home runs including Andy Lugo's grand slam and swept the season-opening series to start the year 2-1. The team will play a six-game series in Beloit beginning Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. KWWL
- ➤ The Cedar Rapids Kernels rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Peoria 8-4 on Saturday afternoon, evening the series at 1-1. Michael Ross earned the win in his high-A debut and Nolan Santos is set to start on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. KWWL
