- ➤ Developers from Talon propose a 92-unit apartment complex in southwest Cedar Rapids on the 3300 block of Stone Creek Circle at an estimated cost of $15 million to offer one- and two-bedroom market-rate rentals, pending state workforce housing tax credits and final city council approval. Some neighbors at Prairie Gardens Cooperative expressed concerns about increased traffic and lower property values, and the rezoning request will be reviewed by the City Council on April 22. - ➤ Cedar Rapids residents leased all 418 community garden plots for the 2025 season, which will let them grow fresh produce and support local sustainability. The Parks & Recreation Department will add six to seven new garden locations when funding is available and open public leasing next March — all plots have water access and will soon share community tool sheds. - ➤ On Tuesday at around 3:27 p.m., a 26-year-old Cedar Rapids man in a grey Chevy Cruz drove at 100 mph on Highway 100 near Covington Road and tried to escape arrest by driving into a farm field but lost control near a fence line west of Burger Lane—his car caught fire and he surrendered without injury while now facing charges for attempting to elude, multiple traffic violations, and a mittimus for his OWI weekend program. - ➤ Senators sent a bill to Gov. Kim Reynolds on Monday that would let the Secretary of State verify voter citizenship by marking a registration as unconfirmed when a challenge arises — voters must then show proof at the polls. Lawmakers also passed measures to boost math skills in schools, adjust vaccine rules for minors, allow fireworks on key holidays and lower the age for carrying a firearm. KCRG
