Good morning, Cedar Rapids.
🏘️ Community
The Oak Hill Jackson Neighborhood Association is hosting a free renter's rights workshop titled 'How to Hold Your Landlord Accountable' at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 at Beems Auditorium in the Cedar Rapids Public Library — panelists will explain landlords' legal duties under state and city housing codes and share contact information for further help.
💼 Business
Diversions Tabletop Game Lounge held its grand opening on Saturday in Coralville.
Co-owners Nolan Petersen and Sean Finn said tariffs from China — which are raising costs on tabletop games made abroad — may force companies to offer lower quality games in the future even though most inventory was bought before the tariffs took effect.
🎭 Culture
Scholars and artists from across North America will gather at the University of Iowa from April 25th to 26th for the Grant Wood Symposium that examines race and American Regionalist art.
The free event will offer panel discussions, a film screening, and an art exhibition visit—focusing on identity and representation in Midwestern art.
🏛️ Government
Governor Kim Reynolds announced she will not run for a third term because her family comes first—she said she will step down in January 2027 after nearly 10 years as governor.
