  • HACAP and ISU Extension Master Gardeners launched a Linn County Seed Library on Thursday, April 24th to offer free seeds and gardening education to help those facing food insecurity. The library is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the ISU Extension office in Hiawatha + local experts are available five days a week to answer gardening questions.  CBS 2 Iowa

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Cedar Rapids police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a motorcycle crash on Wednesday — the incident near the 1800 block of Edgewood Road NW close to O Avenue at around 2:45 p.m. left one rider with serious injuries taken to the hospital.  KCRG

  • DaaBIN Store, a popular discount chain (with blue and yellow bins and rotating inventory), will move from Twixt Town Road to Lindale Mall on Saturday, May 3rd at 10 a.m. The new space between Maurice’s and Famous Footwear (smaller but ready for a grand opening with games and prizes) will host the celebration.  KDAT

  • A new AC by Marriott hotel will be built behind Big Grove Brewery on 2nd Avenue SW to meet downtown's growing demand for hotel rooms. The project, managed by Kinseth Hospitality Companies & Gold Cap Development, will open in the fourth quarter and replace rooms lost when the Cooper Mill Hotel was destroyed during the 2008 flood.  KCRG

  • Midwest Living named Palisades-Kepler State Park—located near Cedar Rapids in Linn County—as Iowa's best hidden gem state park, offering a quiet escape with steep river bluffs, dense trees, deep ravines and Native American mounds. The park is open all year from 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.  KDAT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new House bill may allow raw milk to be sold in grocery stores and farmers markets—this change would replace the current rule of selling only on farms while health officials warn that unpasteurized milk may harbor bacteria that risk the health of children, seniors, and pregnant women.  KDAT
