- ➤ Cedar Rapids Salvation Army serves free meals each weekday at 1000 C Avenue NW, with breakfast from 8-9 a.m. and lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Kitchen Manager Misty Newman and volunteers welcome those in need. CBS 2 Iowa
- ➤ Two Iowa women veterans reunited on Tuesday’s Eastern Iowa Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. where they visited memorials and were honored at Arlington National Cemetery; their service journey began in 1972 and their reunion inspires younger generations. CBS 2 Iowa
- ➤ Old MacDonald's Farm opened recently and is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until the end of September. Caretakers have prepared safeguards (shade, water, food, and sunscreen for pigs) to help animals cope with summer heat. CBS 2 Iowa
- ➤ Eastern Iowa pizza farms will offer summer pizza nights. Luna Valley Farm near Decorah requires reservations for select evenings from May 15 to Oct. 17 (including music events), while Stone Wall Pizza in Wellman welcomes walk-ins on Fridays from May through September with live tunes and wood fired pies. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The USDA has updated the ‘Product of USA’ label so that meat, poultry and egg products must be raised, grown and processed entirely in the country. Iowa food experts say the change will boost consumer trust and support local producers. KCRG
- ➤ The U.S. House passed a bill on Wednesday to allow year-round sales of E-15 gasoline in Iowa, which may boost profits for farmers and ethanol makers. The measure, approved 218 to 203, now heads to the Senate for further review. KCRG
- ➤ Iowa lawmakers approved a bill to tax vape products and nicotine pouches to fund pediatric cancer research at the University of Iowa; Gov. Reynolds is expected to sign it in the coming weeks (the tax takes effect Jan. 1, 2027). KCRG
