  • Animal Control in Cedar Rapids confirmed that an officer found a nine-foot reticulated python in a front yard earlier this month. Officials said the snake—named Sir Hiss-a-Lot—will soon be moved to an Illinois facility since reticulated pythons are illegal to own in Iowa.  KDAT
  • Due to skyrocketing costs, the Cedar Boat Club has cancelled its free fireworks show near Ellis Park on July 3 — a nearly 50-year tradition that will return in 2026.  CBS 2 Iowa
  • Cedar Boat Club announced that this year's Ellis Harbor fireworks show scheduled for July 3 near Ellis Park is cancelled due to skyrocketing fireworks costs—the club plans to host its largest celebration next year for the USA’s 250th year.  KCRG

  • A Cedar Rapids man, Michael Ray Adkins, 48, was shot during a car fight in Minneapolis on May 15 & died from his injuries on May 16 as police investigate the homicide.  CBS 2 Iowa
  • A Cedar Rapids man — 48-year-old Michael Adkins — was fatally shot after an altercation inside a vehicle on the 2700 block of Columbus Avenue in Minneapolis on May 15 and died on May 16 after being transported by an ambulance, while the gunman fled the scene.  KCRG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Linn-Mar High School held a signing day event Tuesday morning to celebrate seniors committed to careers in education. District officials met with the students and provided each with a certificate that guarantees a future interview with the district.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig said he will run for reelection in 2026+ he will not seek the governor seat. He said he will keep working to support Iowa farmers and rural communities+ a formal campaign launch will come later.  CBS 2 Iowa
