- ➤ Cedar Memorial in Cedar Rapids is preparing for its annual Avenue of Flags event by asking volunteers to help place 8,000 flags on veterans' graves on Saturday, May 24th at 8 a.m. or remove them on Tuesday, May 27th at 8 a.m., and offers a free lunch (11:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday) along with a Memorial Day tribute ceremony on Monday at 11 a.m. KDAT
- ➤ Starting June 9 though August 15, Cedar Rapids will host Summer in the Square at Greene Square with free weekday activities, live concerts and fitness classes for families. - ➤ Wilson Middle School in Cedar Rapids is seeking bicycle donations for its annual 6th grade bike trip scheduled for June 14 and needs at least 20 bikes so every student can participate; teachers will also help students learn to ride in honor of longtime P.E. teacher Mr. Ash (donate by calling the school office at 3195582156 or drop off a bike during school hours). - ➤ A Cedar Rapids woman, Jamie Lee Robinson, is accused of first-degree theft and dependent adult abuse after she allegedly stole more than $11,000 from an adult in her care since 2012—authorities say funds were used for personal expenses including $1,170.77 for vehicle repairs which left the victim with unpaid bills. - ➤ Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced the formation of the Auditors Advisory Group—a bipartisan team of county auditors selected to advise on election procedures and help keep elections safe, secure and fair.
