  • Since the start of the year, Shawn Rife, owner of Kava House, said a cocoa shortage has forced her to change desserts by switching to regular cocoa that costs 34% more and adjusting the 12 to 16 item menu—if the supply does not improve, some chocolate items may be removed.  KCRG

  • Cedar Rapids Police responded to a shooting early in the morning on May 25 in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue SE with no injuries or damage, and they dispersed a large crowd while urging witnesses to call (319-286-5491).  KWWL
  • Cedar Rapids police are asking the public for help after shots fired at 1:29 a.m. Sunday in the 200 Block of 3rd Avenue SE—no damage or injuries were reported and a large crowd was dispersed.  CBS 2 Iowa

CULTURE NEWS

  • Performers with Sasago Oiwake Puppet Theatre from Yamanashi prefecture— Iowa's sister state since the '60s—are sharing traditional Japanese bunraku in Iowa, and they will perform at the Des Moines Community Playhouse tomorrow at 2 p.m. This event marks their first U.S. show, bringing a unique art form to local schools and communities.  KCCI

  • Center Point-Urbana Stormin' Pointers were named best mascot in the nation by Sports Illustrated after beating 68 high school mascots in a tournament-style bracket. The school merged its Pointer and cyclone mascots—now known as Stormin' Pointers—to claim the title by defeating Morse Shipbuilders in the final round.  KDAT
