- ➤ Senior Lillie Dostal of Cedar Rapids Washington High, the final KCRG-TV9 Student of the Month, recently graduated and plans to attend Creighton University for business and marketing. - ➤ Nearly 2,000 Iowa National Guard members are deploying to the Middle East this week to support Operation Inherent Resolve—an effort to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria. The Guard is holding 24 sendoff ceremonies from today through May 30th—allowing families and communities in several cities to bid farewell to departing soldiers. CBS 2 Iowa

- ➤ Save CR Heritage will purchase and revitalize the historic Zastera Pharmacy building in Cedar Rapids that had been underused since the 2008 flood. The nonprofit will convert the 1921 brick building into a storefront for vintage windows, doors, hardwood flooring and architectural salvage & community events, with a $100,000 pledge from the Hall-Perrine Foundation and a brick by brick campaign to raise the remaining funds by August 1.
