Good morning, Cedar Rapids.

Thousands of people filled downtown on Saturday morning for the first farmers market of the season, with about 200 vendors selling handmade goods.

The event marked the seasonal kickoff for the summer market series.

Jim Powers, a local competitive rider who passed away on May 11, 2026 at 84, was honored when his horse Remington and rider Andria Pooley carried him to his final resting place in Cedar Rapids.

His family said the tribute (reflecting his lifelong passion for horse sports) was a fitting farewell.

Cedar Rapids is gearing up for its inaugural marathon on June 7 as runners and walkers tackle courses beginning downtown with minimal elevation; organizers say the event welcomes all abilities and backgrounds, celebrating community spirit.
