  • The Edison Pub and Eatery closed earlier this month near Blairs Ferry Road at 475 Northland Ave. NE—its owners retired and a new Italian and Mediterranean restaurant called Tuscany Grill will open in its place.  The Gazette
  • The Grand White Rabbit Tea Company is preparing to open its first Iowa location at Lindale Mall—4444 First Ave. NE—in late June or early July and will serve handcrafted teas and gourmet hand pies.  The Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Thomas Kelly, a former Hartig Drug employee from Cedar Rapids who worked in Belle Plaine, pleaded guilty on May 15 after swapping nearly 400 prescription opioid pills with Aleve over four months + his sentencing hearing will be held on July 24.  CBS 2 Iowa
  • On June 11—at 9:33 a.m.—the Tama County Sheriff’s Office handled a swatting call tied to Fortnite as police checked homes and secured the area.  KCRG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Iowa graduate Jami Martin-Trainor was named a finalist for a national writing award and earned a $1,500 prize at the Hearst Journalism Awards in San Francisco last week – she competed against more than 1,200 entries in writing, photography and television projects.  KCCI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Camerican International, Inc. has recalled its Casa Mamita Churro Bites Filled with Chocolate Hazelnut Cream sold at Aldi in 13 states including Iowa and Illinois due to an undeclared milk allergen—no allergic reactions have been reported so far.  KDAT
  • Radix Recovery opened outpatient substance abuse treatment services this spring at the historic Higley Mansion (860 17th St. SE) and is finishing construction so it will add 68 inpatient beds later this fall as part of a $4.6 million investment that includes a $2 million state grant.  The Gazette
