  • Cedar Rapids fire officials reported a 45% drop in fireworks calls during the recent holiday weekend, with 356 calls compared to 636 last year+ police issued seven citations this year instead of 12 as wet weather on Saturday likely kept callouts lower.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • Downtown Cedar Rapids will welcome Sip at Midtown Reserve, a new wine bar and pizza restaurant set to open by the end of July in the space formerly occupied by Tipsy Tomato—located at 319 7th Street. The remodeled venue will offer artisan pizzas paired with curated wines—operating alongside Midtown Reserve without replacing its bar and lounge area.  KDAT

  • On Monday, witnesses in Linn County testified that Karina Cooper’s troubled marriage with her late husband Ryan showed clear signs of strain, with friends recalling her remark about shooting him and a bank employee noting she stood to receive $500,000 from his death—text messages and social media evidence raised suspicions of an affair with her friend Huston Danker.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • First responders in Cedar Rapids received 356 calls for fireworks from June 1 to July 6 and the fire department responded to 10 fires while police issued 7 citations, a drop from 636 calls with 5 fires recorded in the same period last year—rainy weather may have affected the totals.  KCRG
  • A boil advisory is in effect for homes on Indiandale Rd SE, Indiandale Cir SE, and Trailridge Rd SE in Cedar Rapids after a water main ruptured — the city advised residents to boil water before drinking and use bottled water only if they are pregnant, nursing, or making infant formula.   • Dr. Will Klein from Emplify Health by Gundersen urged Iowa men aged 19-65 to get an annual physical even if they feel fine because studies show many skip preventive care. He said early detection (for example, high blood pressure can be caught) may lead to better outcomes as most insurance covers these visits.  Radio Iowa
