- ➤ Cedar Rapids police arrested 26-year-old Malique Johnson on two counts of willful injury, two counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon & going armed with intent after he stabbed two people at a party in the 1200 block of Ellis Boulevard NW, and they also arrested 30-year-old Allante Johnson for interference with official acts & public intoxication. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kirkwood Community College has been awarded two federal TRIO Student Support Services grants that will provide $624,895 a year for the next five years to help low-income, first-generation and disabled students earn their degrees. The grants will fund academic tutoring, financial aid guidance and mentoring for the TRIO SSS programs — including the English as a Second Language program. KWWL

- ➤ The bridge on Boyson Road and its ramps will be closed for about a month as repair work continues. Transportation officials urged drivers to use Blairs Ferry road to cross I-380 and be cautious near the work site—repairers are working to keep the project on schedule. KCRG
- ➤ Miranda Anderson received $150,000 from Cedar Rapids to settle her claim that she was hit by a police car in 2020 when officer Jessica Barnhart turned from 3rd Street SE onto 2nd Avenue SE — the lawsuit alleged personal injury from the incident. KCRG
- ➤ The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission fined FanDuel $125,000 for five violations including bets placed on the Superbowl, soccer matches, and golf events—FanDuel said it improved training and systems to address the issues and refunded affected bettors. Radio Iowa

- ➤ State regulators said they have never inspected or are investigating Cedar Rapids-based Compassion North America even after records and testimony showed the agency falsified patient records—billed for care not provided and used an unlicensed nurse. The agency received its license last September despite evidence it provided services as early as June 2022, and its director now appeals disciplinary sanctions from a Board of Nursing hearing.
