ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon, the driver of a semi truck rolled it onto its side on the eastbound ramp from Highway 30 to Highway 100 in rural Cedar Rapids when Randall Mills of De Soto lost control trying to navigate a turn — he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and charged with failure to maintain control.  KWWL

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrived at 2:55 a.m. on Sunday to investigate a shooting on the 600 block of East Court Street in Iowa City and found evidence of gunfire while four victims are recovering—one was taken by ambulance and three went to hospitals in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids with injuries that are not life-threatening.  CBS 2 Iowa

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation will sponsor free admission days at 12 cultural institutions on Aug. 9 and Aug. 10 to help Linn County residents connect with local art and history—details will be provided by the foundation.  The Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Last week, strong winds knocked down 10% of the corn at Knight’s farm in Springville and damaged five acres—workers now must hand-pick salvageable stalks while some stands in Cedar Rapids and Marion are closed, although corn will be available through September.  KCRG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cedar Rapids Utilities responded to 128 water main breaks last fiscal year, including two major breaks on Collins Road in July. The city is replacing older pipes during road work so repairs cost less — a step aimed at lowering future break risks.  KCRG

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Iowa Board of Nursing suspended Cedar Rapids nurse Tera Serbousek’s license after she was reported to have been intoxicated at work on Nov. 14 and Dec. 3—she agreed to join a recovery program and waive her right to a formal hearing.  The Gazette
