ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon, first responders went to Lake MacBride State Park near the Coralville Lake boat ramp after a single-vehicle accident where four people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries — the Iowa DNR and Iowa State Patrol are investigating the incident.  KCRG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers say the powerful derecho that struck Cedar Rapids in 2020 with 140 mph winds caused severe damage and remains rare and hard to predict, though a warming climate may lead to more frequent storms. Local meteorologists are working to extend warning times from six to 18 hours to 24 hours + improved forecasts could help better detect these events.  The Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The USDA will invest $152 million in 20 Iowa communities for hospital, water and energy projects — with a $37 million loan for a Guthrie County hospital, a $2.5 million grant for a Bondurant water tower, and wastewater upgrades in Eldora and Moulton — and more funding announcements will come soon. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins made the announcement at the state fair, showing plans for further improvements in rural areas.  KCRG
