  • A Cedar Rapids nonprofit, Together We Achieve—born from the 2020 derecho—is now helping thousands with food and water. The group started with one folding table five years ago and has grown to serve over 10,000 people in need.  KCRG
  • Cedar Rapids officials launched the Neighborhood P.A.C.T. Program after the 2020 derecho to help residents build emergency supply kits, form plans to communicate during disasters, and access Neighborhood Resource Centers for updates. The program—designed for severe weather events like heatwaves, blizzards, flooding, tornadoes, and power outages—offers training and clear steps for preparedness.  CBS 2 Iowa
  • Downtown Cedar Rapids will host the 10th annual Market After Dark on Saturday, August 23 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.—a free, open-air event featuring over 120 vendors, live music from Surf Zombies and Crazy Delicious, and an open container alcohol policy that requires wristbands while restricting outside drinks and dogs.  KDAT

  • Helix Electric Inc. will hire 400 workers for a Cedar Rapids data center project — it is their first Iowa assignment for a multi-billion-dollar job that will stretch over at least the next two years.  KCRG
  • JBS USA has agreed to buy an Ankeny facility from Hy-Vee to build a ready-to-eat bacon and sausage plant—this 186,000-square-foot facility will become operational by mid-2026 and create about 400 jobs. The company plans to hire many former Hy-Vee workers as part of its expansion in Iowa.  KCRG

  • Paul Hoff testified on Wednesday in Andrew Shaw's trial, saying that at his mobile home Chris Bagley was stabbed by Johnny Blahnik Church while Drew Wagner held him down—details that add key facts to the murder case.  CBS 2 Iowa

  • New data from Cedar Rapids Community School District shows a 50% drop in student charges, including a 65% decline for black students since last year, thanks to new partnerships with Cedar Rapids police and Foundation 2 Crisis Services.
