- ➤ Moy’s Food from the Streets, a food truck that has served Cedar Rapids for eight years, will open its first restaurant in September at 4201 42nd St. NE (the site of the former Pizza World) and will serve Mexico City-style tacos with a new menu (offering breakfast and lunch options). The Gazette

- ➤ Law enforcement is searching for Riley Young, a 30-year-old person of interest who left the scene of an overnight stabbing on Franklin St. in Center Point in Linn County — deputies found 36-year-old Trent Pray with serious knife wounds after a 12:52 a.m. call and said the targeted attack posed no danger to residents. - ➤ The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance announced the 2026 Executive Class of the Leadership for Five Seasons program—an exclusive 9-month course running from September through May for newly relocated or appointed executives. - ➤ Students are back on campus at Simpson College this week for the new school year under interim President Sue Stuebner, who took over after President Jay Byers died in April. The college reported record enrollment with over 1,100 students and introduced new programs such as gymnastics and volleyball—efforts aimed at keeping students engaged and supporting community healing. - ➤ University of Iowa students are worried as fake active shooter calls, known as swatting, have hit 11 colleges including Iowa State which received two false alarms. Although no call has affected the Iowa campus, students are urging peers to sign up for Hawk Alerts—helping keep everyone informed and safe. KCRG
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials with an Iowa nonprofit say nearly $2M in federal grant funds was cancelled this past spring for projects to reduce pollution, protect public health and build climate resiliency in disadvantaged communities—leaving cities like Dubuque, Des Moines, Council Bluffs and Ottumwa without essential support. - ➤ Sen. Chuck Grassley is considering another run in 2028 and filed a statement of candidacy with the FEC—he said family needs and his ability to serve will guide his decision. CBS 2 Iowa
- ➤ The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted a waiver so Next Era Energy can restart the Duane Arnold nuclear plant in Linn County. Linn County approved zoning changes that clear the way for the restart, which will happen in 2028 at a cost of $50 to $100 million to meet growing power needs from data centers. KCRG
