  • The annual Five Seasons Stand Down event will be held this Thursday at Veterans Memorial Stadium to help veterans connect with over 80 community vendors offering housing, legal and health services—free transportation is provided for those in need.  The Gazette

  • A crash has blocked the entrance ramp from Edgewood Road Southwest to US 30 eastbound in Cedar Rapids—officials report no further details have been released.  CBS 2 Iowa

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ICE released a statement ahead of a protest taking place today at approximately 7:30 a.m. where community members are supporting three immigrant families during ICE check-ins at 3351 Square D Dr SW, and the agency warned that any vandalism or disruption will result in investigation and prosecution—emphasizing the need for lawful behavior.  KCRG
  • Iowa State Treasurer Roby Smith has launched a statewide ISave 529 giveaway during September to celebrate college savings month. Five Iowa students will each win a $1,000 contribution to an ISave 529 plan—winners can also donate an extra $1,000 to a K-12 school of their choice.  KCRG
  • The Linn County Board of Supervisors will vote on a proposed nuclear energy ordinance Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Jean Oxley Public Service Center—public comment is accepted as the ordinance sets an exclusive zoning process for nuclear projects. Marion officials celebrated by unveiling the 'Echos of Marion' sculpture at City Square Park, which reflects the local urban scene.  The Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts say tick season is now a year-round threat in Iowa as warmer winters let millions of ticks survive and raise Lyme disease risks, so residents must check themselves, pets, and children—especially when they spend time outdoors. Livestock owners should also be alert since the Asian longhorned tick found in southeast Iowa may harm animals.  Radio Iowa
  • The University of Iowa Health Care is expanding its AirCare emergency transport program to add ECMO—advanced life support for patients with severe heart and lung failure—and the new team will operate 24/7 from its Iowa City Medical Center to serve patients within a 170-mile radius.
