Dozens of protestors marched in Cedar Rapids protesting the ICE detainment of Jorge Gonzalez — the protest, sparked by allegations of excessive force during his arrest at Bread Garden Market, moved from Green Square to the Linn County Correctional Center.

Cyclists rode from Cedar Rapids to Bloomsbury Farm on Sunday morning for the first-ever Harvest Ride, starting at Chain Reaction Bike Hub.

Organizers said more than half the proceeds went to a nonprofit bike shop and riders enjoyed live music, food and fall activities at the farm.

In November 2024, Cedar Rapids air traffic controller Nathan Mencke helped guide pilot Minnetta Gardinier out of a stall-spin during a challenging approach into Iowa City under strong winds and low visibility — his early training shift and clear instructions allowed the pilot to recover and land safely.

Community members and teachers marched from Greene Square Park to Linn County Correctional Center on Sunday to protest ICE detaining Dr. Ian Roberts, the Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent, who was arrested Friday after fleeing officers with a loaded gun, money, and a hunting knife—Associate Superintendent Matt Smith has taken charge.

The Cedar Valley Marine Corps League will host a birthday ball in November to celebrate 250 years of Marine service and will honor veterans, active duty members, and the public.

Former Commandant Dave Cork said the event will include cake cutting, an auction, and dancing—offering a chance to remember Marine traditions and sacrifices.
