- ➤ Owners Krystan Proctor and Alex Cooley plan to move their bakery and Cajun restaurant from NewBo City Market to the Armstrong Centre on 210 Third Ave. SE by early November—this move will end their market lease on Dec. 28 and let them offer later dinner hours with an expanded Southern menu. - ➤ The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art will host its 10th annual Gala on Nov. 7 at the Cedar Rapids Country Club — the event will feature international food stations and a silent auction that supports museum education and outreach programs. - ➤ Cedar Rapids voters will decide on a $117M bond proposal in November to renovate three historic middle schools and update Kennedy High's cafeteria and freshman wing. - ➤ Governor Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services announced Wednesday that an extra $5M will boost partnerships between child care providers and preschools—this funding will support new grants offering up to $300k over three years for full-day care for 4-year-olds. - ➤ The U.S. Department of Agriculture said if the government shutdown continues into November, it will not fund SNAP benefits, which could affect more than 259,000 Iowans who rely on the program for food assistance. A budget agreement that reopens the government will restore SNAP funding. KCRG

- ➤ Grace Calvert, an Iowa woman with brain cancer, is urging lawmakers to extend health care subsidies she relies on for treatment since the enhanced premium tax credits will end later this year; she said that without these credits, rising costs could limit her access to needed care + her future depends on a quick decision. - ➤ The University of Iowa announced the finalized women’s wrestling schedule for 2025-26 which includes three home duals at Carver-Hawkeye Arena—starting November 1 at the Luther Hill Open in Indianola and continuing through tournaments that end with the National Championships in Coralville on March 6 and 7.
