CULTURE NEWS

  • A study by Innerbody Research ranked Iowa as the 19th most festive state and found many Iowans still love Christmas music—while West Virginia tops the festive list and searches for mistletoe have dropped. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cornell College announced on Friday that it will cut several liberal arts programs, including parts of its music program and language majors, leaving students unsure about their academic future. The college cited declining enrollment as a factor and will offer teach-out programs for current students.  KCRG
  • Cedar Rapids school board member Jennifer Neumann has served since 2019 and now becomes president as she vows to unite board voices and keep community concerns and student achievements clear—she plans to refine bond proposals. The board will meet next on December 8.  CBS 2 Iowa
  • South Winneshiek High School senior Adele Conway, named KCRG-TV9 Student of the Month, will graduate in the spring with both a high school diploma and an Associate of Science degree from Northeast Iowa Community College.   • Iowa State Patrol said traffic deaths dropped 20% from last year and officials aim to keep fatalities below 300 as the new hands‐free driving law takes effect since July 1 — they will keep a close watch over holiday travel amid expected snowy conditions.
