  • The Northeast Iowa Food Bank will partner with Bill Colwell Ford, Dan Deery Toyota and Rydell Chevrolet in December to launch the Driving Out Hunger campaign and help families facing food insecurity after the government shutdown + oil changes will donate a portion of proceeds and collect nonperishable food items to support programs like mobile food pantries and the Cedar Valley Food Pantry.  CBS 2 Iowa

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On November 26th, a fire at a multi-family home on Water View Court in Cedar Rapids displaced residents ahead of Thanksgiving as firefighters rescued three cats and quickly put out flames on the second floor while the cause remains under investigation.  CBS 2 Iowa

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dua Pie opened at 375 Third St. SE in downtown Cedar Rapids on Nov. 19 and serves New York style pies, subs and pasta. It fills the vacancy left by Gianna’s Italian Beef and will be open for lunch and dinner six days a week—offering late night service until 2:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.  The Gazette

  • The Old World Christmas Market will return to the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library on Dec. 6 and 7 with free museum admission and vendor markets offering traditional Czech and Slovak treats, holiday crafts, and family activities. The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 6 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 7—providing a full weekend of festive celebration in the Czech Village.  The Gazette

  • The American Farm Bureau reported that a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 now costs $55.18 — 5% lower than last year. Although turkey and dinner rolls cost less, higher prices for fresh vegetables, dairy and sweet potatoes show that Iowa farmers face rising input costs and supply challenges.  KCRG

  • Cedar Rapids public works crews began pre-treating roads with a new salt brine on Wednesday to stop snow and ice from bonding, as the season’s first significant snowfall is expected this weekend. Street Supervisor Brett Lerch said more than 100 pieces of snow-removal equipment are ready and urged drivers to leave 50 to 100 feet for plows and avoid parking directly across from each other.  CBS 2 Iowa
  • Cedar Rapids officials have added winter closures at Jones, Lincolnway, and Navajo Parks—closing the drive at Jones Park’s Oak Pavilion and the parking lots at Lincolnway and Navajo Parks—while urging visitors to be cautious as winter weather moves in.  CBS 2 Iowa
  • TSA spokeswoman Jessica Mayle advised Iowans flying for Thanksgiving to arrive at the airport two hours early and pack only what they need in an empty bag (passengers must show a valid ID such as a Real ID driver's license with a gold star or a passport).   • Linn County will run its snow removal service for the 2025-26 winter season Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.—extra hours will be added during heavy snowfall while residents can view route maps and track plows online to avoid parking violations during snow events.  KWWL

  • Thanksgiving food safety tips advise taking your turkey out now and thawing it in cold water for 30 minutes per pound before cooking it until the inside reaches 165°F.
