  • Dua Pie, a new restaurant in downtown Cedar Rapids, offers New York-style pizza, strombolis, and calzones from the family behind Napoli’s.   • The Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds will host its free, all-ages New Year's Eve Bash on Wednesday, Dec. 31 inside the Fair Center with Loess Hills opening at 7 p.m. and Motley Scrue performing a high-energy Mötley Crüe tribute.  KDAT

  • Today, Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance revealed its 2026 legislative priorities, informed by over 1,200 investors and community partners, focusing on talent, workforce growth, and economic competitiveness in Eastern Iowa. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 600 students left Cedar Rapids Community Schools since last year due to concerns with academic support and classroom safety, as parents choose charter and private schools. District leaders plan to invest $2.5 million and launch a seven-year strategic plan to address these issues.  KCRG

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new, severe flu strain (H3N2 subclade K) is spreading in Cedar Rapids and nearby Iowa; the CDC warns the mutation causes sudden symptoms like fever and chills and poses extra risks to the elderly and children. Residents should take extra precautions through handwashing and avoiding contact with the sick.  KDAT
  • Iowa State University researchers found that milk glands in common livestock have receptors that may allow H5N1 to replicate if dairy products are not pasteurized, and they urge farmers to monitor their animals. The study appears in the Journal of Dairy Science.  KCRG
