  • Foster and adoptive families celebrated a Winter Wonderland event yesterday at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids as Families Helping Families of Iowa teamed with Four Oaks + Operation Santa, with over 900 children enjoying holiday activities and 575 wish lists fulfilled.  CBS 2 Iowa
  • Volunteers gathered Sunday at Chain Reaction Bike Hub to fix and clean bicycles that will be given to kids for Christmas, with the drive growing from 45 bikes last year to about 150 this year.  KCRG
  • Kent and Polly Mattison have volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cedar Rapids & Eastern Iowa for years, matching with local youth through outings and regular mentoring to help them learn new skills and achieve their dreams.  The Gazette

  • Eastern Iowa Airport will work on a 10-year plan to build an aerospace cluster that boosts local jobs and growth in the area.   • Local Siouxland organizations and law enforcement offered heartfelt condolences for Iowa National Guard soldiers killed in Syria on Dec. 13, including Sgt. Nate Howard, son of Meskwaki Police Chief Jeffery Bunn (according to local officials).  KCRG

  • UnityPoint's AbbeHealth Aging Services runs day centers in Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Iowa City to support older adults with dementia and intellectual disabilities.
