- ➤ Indoor and outdoor ice rinks are open for public skating this winter across Eastern Iowa, including ImOn Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids and BodyArmor Ice Rink at Coral Ridge Mall. Many sites have set hours + rental fees while outdoor rinks depend on weather conditions. KDAT
- ➤ Blue Star Mothers of America are asking locals to send cards, letters, and care packages to support families of two Iowa National Guard members lost in Syria; drop-offs are available at the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum in Johnston (and at a HeartRadio lobby in Des Moines). CBS 2 Iowa

- ➤ I'll Meet You There begins serving coffee today at 7 a.m. in Czech Village, located at 62 16th Ave SW; its bookstore opened on Dec. 8. The business features curated books and will soon add a food menu (it will close on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). KDAT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hiawatha City Council approved rezoning for a new CR Prep building on Wednesday that will hold 600 students at the former GoDaddy site (between North Center Point and Robins Roads). The charter school will move sixth to eighth graders there next year while ninth graders remain on its current campus. KCRG
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Iowa Health and Human Services has proposed limiting Medicaid reimbursement for child speech therapy sessions to 15 minutes daily even though therapy usually lasts 40-45 minutes. Local parents and clinics fear the change will extend wait lists and delay early intervention services. KCRG

- ➤ LeVar Woods, Iowa special teams coordinator, accepted a role as assistant head coach and special teams coordinator with Michigan State — he will coach the Hawkeyes in the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year's Eve after years of service with the Hawkeyes. KCRG
