- ➤ First Lutheran Church in downtown completed its $7 million renovation — featuring a custom pipe organ, a dining hall seating 200, and an expanded preschool area — to better serve community needs. - ➤ Eastern Iowa’s Hindu community celebrated the opening of a larger temple in Robins; the 1,000-capacity space replaces the long-used Cedar Rapids temple and was funded by local donations, with plans to serve as a cultural center by adding a community hall and library. CBS 2 Iowa
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Mt. Vernon pitcher Cael Foreman became the first overall pick in the inaugural Big League Whiffle Ball draft held on April 18 by the San Diego Orcas. The team, owned by rap star Nelly & former NFL star Julio Jones, will start play this summer on ESPN networks. KDAT
