If you live in Cedar Rapids, six of the city's nine fire stations are set for improvements. Voters backed the $60 million bond Tuesday with nearly 75% approval in preliminary results from the Linn County Auditor's Office. KGAN put support at 74%, well above the 60% needed.
The money covers work at six of the fire department's nine stations, a new training center and an upgraded firefighting apparatus. It's the department's first bond request in more than three decades. City Manager Jeff Pomeranz said, “We know every public dollar matters.”
- Length: 20-year bond
- Tax impact: up to $24.46 per $100,000 of assessed residential property value
- Training center: live-burn capability and clean training spaces

Stations 5 and 6 are multistory designs built in 1957. The others are one-story buildings that opened in the '80s as a “temporary” solution to rapid growth.
